New Year’s resolutions have NEVER worked for me, I am of the firm belief, that they rarely work for anyone. After 20 years of making and breaking resolutions, I decided that this had to STOP. Nothing feels worse than making a resolution and breaking it. It leads to shame, disappointment, and a feeling of complete failure and a reminder of all the ways I could and should have done the year different. A couple of years ago, I decided ENOUGH of the shame, I wanted and deserved MORE.
I decided I would ditch the resolutions and go for something different, I would pick One Word! Instead of making resolutions on all the things I wanted to change about myself I would pick One Word, to be my guiding light for the coming year.
Resolutions = Failure
One Word = Freedom
This One Word would be my anchor, my guiding light, my hope. It would serve as a promise of all the things to come. A word can’t be broken, it is just one word that can be interpreted in a million different ways. Resolutions seldom work because they are based on changing from the person we are tired of being instead of focusing on the amazing person we ARE. Choosing One Word is Transformational.
One Word gives you clarity and focus for what the year ahead will be.
How do you want to feel in 2017?
What if planning for 2017 felt fun, exciting, and freeing?
What if I told you that in 2017 you could create magic with just One Word?
This One Word will be your Focus, True North, and Mantra for 2017.
That is why I encourage my clients to choose just One Word to be your focus for the next twelve months. It will help you keep your attention fixed on what you want to create. Your word becomes your mantra, guiding light, your hope, it points you to your true north. Anytime during the year that you feel hopeless or stuck you can just go back to your word and you will be reminded of what you want to create. How do you find your One Word? It is a lot easier than you think. I have created a little guide to help you get started.
FIRST THINGS FIRST GET ALONE!
Turn off the T.V. , pour yourself a nice cup of tea or coffee, light a candle, and find a quiet place you can be alone. If you share your home with others, tell them that for the next hour or however long you need that you are going on a quest and unless there is blood, fire, or fear of death; you are NOT to be interrupted. Now that the mood has been set it is time to get to work.
WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE IN 2017?
Who were you in 2016? Are you who you hoped you would be on December 31st? Where would you make changes if you could? It is a new year you get a redo. So who do you want to be on December 31, 2017? It isn’t about being thinner or richer, It is about who you are deep in your soul. It is about embracing the deep calling of your soul.
WHAT DOES YOUR PERFECT DAY LOOK LIKE IN 2017?
Close your eyes and just imagine what that day would look like. Get detailed, How do you wake up? What do you eat? Who do you talk to? What are you doing? How are you feeling? What is the weather like? The important part in this is that you have fun! This perfect day feels like Freedom!
IDENTIFY THE KEY WORDS!
Now that you have a picture in your mind, get a piece of paper and start jotting down key words.They can be action words or feeling words just write them down. If you are feeling a little at loss of words I have created a fun list but there are millions of words this is just a start.
When you are done look over your list;
What stands out?
What feels like freedom?
What makes you feel empowered?
PICK A WORD!
I am always tempted to pick several but I promise it is easier and more powerful to just pick one. Commit this coming year to just One Word.
Remember, that this word will be your guiding light and mantra, it will help you determine the path you take, the choices you make. That One Word will sum up who you want to be and how you want to live. I promise you that if you commit to this One Word it will not only shape your year it, will create magic in all areas of your life.

One Word Can Be Magic!
One Word Can Change your life!
In the past I have chosen words like Hope, Healing, Brave and Adventure. Every single time, my year has been full of magic with that word at the center of it. The year that I chose Brave, it was so empowering that I made drastic changes in my life. Last year, I picked Adventure, and my year was so full of Adventure that even as I write this I am in awe of all of the Adventures I have had. Every single year that I have done this at the end of the year I have looked back and seen that the One Word I chose was exactly what I needed.
